Bible Worker Highlight: Steven

Steven grew up in a Hindu family. His father was a pious man who faithfully performed many Hindu rituals. One day, someone did a black magic spell against him, and he became sick and died.

After his father’s death, Steven was angry at the Hindu gods. He admonished and rebuked the idols in his home. “My father was so faithful to you, but you gave no life to him,” Steven said.

Eventually, he concluded that there was no god because if the gods he had worshiped were real, he thought, they would have saved his father. Then, he met a Bible Worker who told him about Jesus.

At first, Steven thought Jesus was just like one of the many other gods that had failed his father, but the Bible Worker explained that only Jesus is Lord. He told him about the war in heaven and how the Hindu deities are not gods at all but fallen angels. Then Steven clearly understood that Jesus was the true God.

Steven continued to study the Bible and was baptized. One day, as he was reading his Bible, he came across this verse:

“I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one,” Ezekiel 22:30.

This verse touched Steven’s heart; he felt like God was speaking to him through it.

“I thought, why can’t I be that one man who can stand between God and the nation?” Steven shared.

Steven saw God pouring out His heart in this verse, and he had to act on it. He decided to start doing ministry and later became a Jesus for Asia Bible Worker. Because he chose to act, Steven has been able to share the Gospel with many people who may never have heard otherwise. Now, Steven and a group of 15-20 believers meet every Sabbath in a small shed near his house that they sacrificed to build themselves.

This attitude, this willingness to stand in the gap, is something that we have seen over and over in our Bible Workers. They may face persecution, trials, and impossibilities, and yet they remain determined to share Jesus with others.

We have recently received requests for more Bible Workers in several new areas. Please join us in praying for God's guidance in fulfilling these requests, including the additional funds for new Bible Workers. We also ask you to join us in praying for God's provision of funds for our current Bible Workers.

We thank you for your prayers and support that enable men and women like Steven to follow their God-given calling.
